The Smoking Kitty

While sitting around one day in my apartment.  We noticed that Sheba was fascinated with the smoke from the cigarette that Jim was smoking.  Her gaze would follow the drifting smoke from the tip of the cigarette until it faded away.

When Jim jokingly held out his lit cigarette to Sheba, butt first.  Sheba stood up, walked to him, and took the cigarette from him.  With the cigarette in her mouth, and then she proceeded to walk  proudly away without dropping it. Her tail held high, with a "look at me expression" in her eyes.

This earned her the Nickname The Smoking Kitty.

Sheba

Sheba first came into my life 19 years ago.  In November 1991, I went to a Mall in Virginia Beach with my friend  Alice, who was my roommate at the time, to pick out a pair of kittens.  When I first saw Sheba, she was looking up, trying to figure out how to get out of the glass cage, all the while a white husky puppy was barking at her from the next cage.  It was love at first site, I  knew instantly that she was meant for me.

I created this blog in order to tell the funny stories about Sheba.  She was unique! She thought she was Human.  I swear she was part Dog, part Cat, and Part Human by the way she acted.  I will not be telling her stories in the sequence of when they happened.

Sheba's passing January 18, 2011

The hardest decision I ever had to make was to put my furry little child to sleep.

                                             ***********

Oh Goddess, this animal brought sunshine to us and was a vital part of our lives.

Her passing has created a void in our hearts that cannot be filled.

We do not question the will of the Goddess, but ask her to be merciful in our loss.

Blessed Be

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE POEM

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
